The densification of cities causes many problems related to urban traffic, pollution and noise. Currently, there are no tools to study the impact of different spatial planning projects on the urban climate. The CleanCity project aims at providing urban engineers with a decision-making tool to assess the air quality, with a focus on pollutant dispersion.

The main objectives of this project are the following:

  • 3D CAD modelling of the Quartier des Pâquis (district of Geneva).
  • Design and development of a simulation system based on Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD).
  • Computer simulations of urban planning situations.
  • Development of a general method to encourage urban engineers to take air quality into account in urban planning projects.

In this project, the lsds-rg group develops a simulation system (based on free CFD software) that automatically distributes the computer simulations over multiple servers, depending on their complexity and resource requirements.
