01 Jun 2026: Polygones and O-CEI featured in the “Meyrin Ensemble” magazine.

Meyrin is taking part in O-CEI, a major European project (funded by Horizon Europe and the Swiss Confederation) focused on urban energy flexibility. Locally, the Polygones housing cooperative in the Vergers neighborhood serves as a “living lab,” working with HES-SO’s Smart Energy District program. Residents are testing apps and rethinking how shared appliances are used, aiming to shift energy use toward times of solar production or away from grid peaks.

The key idea: solutions need to be simple, trustworthy, and co-designed with residents rather than imposed — and the lessons learned here will shape tomorrow’s appliances, from smart plugs that auto-schedule cycles to simple lights in shared laundry rooms signaling when energy’s available.
